Former U.S. Reps. Connie Mack and Mary Bono Mack are divorcing, according to a report on the Sarasota Herald-Tribune website.
Mack, who ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate last year, and his wife were married in December 2007.
She was the widow of U.S. Rep. Sonny Bono, and she took over his congressional seat after his death in 1998. She was defeated in her re-election bid in November.
According to a statement from the couple, the split is amicable.
“We have nothing but respect and admiration for each other and we intend to remain on the friendliest of terms. We appreciate the love and support of our family and friends,” the statement said.
