An overnight fire destroyed a vacant building that once housed the Harbor Club in Sulphur Springs, Tampa Fire Rescue said.

Crews responded to a fire at 915 E. Grant Ave. around 3:31 this morning and saw heavy smoke coming from the building.

Firefighters were able to enter the building and put out flames in the main room, but were forced to evacuate when they spotted more flames in the rear of the building, which quickly spread throughout the structure, Tampa Fire Rescue said.

Additional help was called in due to the size of the blaze, with a total of eight engines, two ladder trucks and additional support responding to the fire, Tampa Fire Rescue said.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators were at the scene this morning working to determine the cause of the fire.

City of Tampa public works will demolish the building in the interest of safety, Tampa Fire Rescue said.

Nebraska Avenue at Sitka Street was closed for several hours due to the fire, but has reopened to traffic.
