Woman’s club dumpster dives for a cause

Published:

GFWC Lutz-Land O’ Lakes Woman’s Club has long been known to recycle and conserve for the benefit of the environment and the community.

Members Aniko Solomonson and Nancy Boschert recently took recycling to a new level by finding a treasure trove of at least 150 children’s books in a dumpster. The ladies weren’t too proud to “dumpster dive” in order to recover books for various children’s reading projects sponsored by the woman’s club.

Books are regularly delivered by club members to area laundromats specifically for children to enjoy and even take home to keep free of charge.

Many times, these donated books are the only reading materials in the home for the children to enjoy, particularly for the pre-school and kindergarten ages. Books are also donated to Metropolitan Ministries and area domestic violence shelters on behalf of their resident children by the woman’s club.
