Things to do in Carrollwood, Temple Terrace area

Beloved musical: The Patel Conservatory Theater presents “The Music Man Jr.” in the TECO Theater at the Straz Center, today through Saturday and April 18-20. The musical tells the story of a fast-talking traveling salesman who falls in love with a willful librarian and piano teacher. Songs include “Seventy-Six Trombones” and “Til There Was You.”

The musical will be performed by 37 Conservatory students, ranging in age from 11 to 15, who have studied the play since January.

Show times are 7 p.m. Friday, and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets start at $15 and may be purchased by calling (813) 229-7827, in person at the Straz Center ticket office or online at www.strazcenter.org.

Get funky: The Black Honkeys bring ‘70s funk to The Shops at Wiregrass for this week’s Concerts on the Circle.

Concerts takes place Thursdays throughout April from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in the valet circle on Piazza Avenue. A live DJ kicks off the show at 6 p.m. and the band performs at 7 p.m. The concert series theme is music of the decades, with concertgoers invited to dress in their favorite ‘70s-themed attire.

The Shops at Wiregrass offers a commemorative drink mug for $10 with proceeds donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. For information, go to www.theshopsatwiregrass.com.

Zoo signature gala: Join the area’s top business and community leaders at Karamu XXV, Lowry Park Zoo’s signature annual black-tie gala, at 6:30 p.m. at 1101 W. Sligh Ave.

This year’s 25th anniversary event is inspired by the Hollywood glamour of the silver screen. Guests will enjoy cocktails, animal encounters, dinner, auctions, live entertainment and dancing in the zoo’s Safari Lodge.

India extravaganza: Tampa Bay Rath Yatra presents a Gatha Odissi dance recital from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Hindu Temple of Florida, 5509 Lynn Road.

“Gatha Odissi — Journey from Temple to Stage” is a classical dance recital performed by 11 Odissi dancers led by Guru Aruna Mohanty from the Odissi Dance Academy of India. Tickets are $15 per person and include a vegetarian dinner.
