Patrons of the Jimmy B. Keel Regional Library will start seeing the dust fly this month, as it goes under renovation and expansion, according to Tina Russo, branch supervisor. When the dust settles, hopefully by the end of 2013, the renovations will include:
A bigger children's room.
An additional, large community room for library programs and public meetings.
Additional seating for quiet study and expanded Friends of the Library bookstore.
An additional entrance on the west side of the library.
During construction the library will maintain regular hours of operation. A limited number of parking spaces will be blocked off on the east side of the front parking lot to accommodate construction. Four spaces will be situated in front of the building to face Bearss Avenue for safety and to ensure continued parking for disabled customers.
Temporary walls will be built inside the community room and inside the children's area to accommodate interior renovation work, while minimizing disruption to normal operations and customer service. Also, other portions of the building will be partitioned off, and some shelving of collections will be relocated as interior renovation progresses.
The expansion and renovation work is being funded by the Hillsborough County Facilities Management Services Department Capital Improvement Program. For further information call the Hillsborough County Public Library at (813) 635-5400, or visit www.hcplc.org.
