From crystal-covered collars to toys, pets get the royal treatment

For three years, Royal Pets Market & Resort, 16010 Mapledale Blvd., Northdale, has been a one-stop shop for those whose family includes a dog or cat. From food, toys and other supplies to extensive veterinary services, training, grooming and boarding, Royal Pets covers all the bases.

Yet, the all-encompassing products and services are not what makes Royal Pets stand out. According to Jeff Gibson, director of store operations, it’s the customer service.

“We believe that the level of customer service and the knowledge of our associates is what makes us different,” Gibson says. “We focus on making each customer and his or her pet feel like royalty. We spend a lot of time on associate education so that our associates are extremely knowledgeable about our products and services. That level of care and service is what sets us apart and keeps our customers coming back.”

Gibson says that the mission of Royal Pets is to provide the highest-quality products and services at a value price. The owners, managers and most of the associates are pet parents, and that drives them to provide the same quality they would want for their own pets.

“For us, it’s all about the pets and how we can enhance the bond between owners and their pets,” Gibson explains. “Our pets are everything to us. They’re our children.”

Royal Pets carries a variety of products for dogs and cats, from essentials such as food, bowls, litter and bedding to the fun stuff, such as toys, chew products, scratching posts, catnip and treats, as well as grooming products, cat furniture, collars with genuine Swarovski crystals and fresh bakery treats for dogs.

“We really shop around to ensure we carry the best products on the market,” Gibson adds.

Royal Pets carries dog and cat food from all major suppliers, including Blue Buffalo, Science Diet, Eukanuba, Wellness and Nutro, as well as hard-to-find foods from boutique vendors.

While Royal Pets includes a state-of-the-art veterinary office with a full surgical suite, Gibson says the focus of the veterinary services is on preventive medicine, and identifying and treating issues before they become medical problems. The veterinary office is open on the weekends and as late as 8 p.m. on some weeknights.

Grooming is available for dogs and cats, and many extras, such as special shampoos, conditioners and a cucumber facial scrub are included in the base price, as is the trimming and grinding of nails.

The resort at Royal Pets is staffed 24 hours a day and includes everything from doggy day care to extended stays for dogs and cats. Gibson says that every effort is taken to mirror the pet’s home schedule, including food and medications, and the boarding facilities are clean and roomy, while some have web cams to allow owners to check in on their pets.

“When people bring their pets in for any of our services, we want them to feel like they are leaving their pets with family,” Gibson adds.
