VALRICO Foto Box, a Valrico-based photography booth company, received a WeddingWire's 2013 Bride's Choice Award.

Professional photographer Jamie Ratcliff started Foto Box in August 2011, after seeing a forum post about a photo booth at a wedding.

The idea intrigued him, so he built a photo booth and ran a special offer to rent it on www.LivingSocial.com.

He had a huge response — more than 50 bookings, he said.

Since then, the company has grown rapidly, due to its "lower prices … with a superior product," said Ratcliff.

Foto Box uses "top-quality cameras, fast, top-quality printers, and our photos look really good," he said. "That and word of mouth has helped us grow."

Foto Box now consists of Ratcliff, his business partner, Terry Fisher of Valrico, and 11 technicians. They have 10 booths that they provided for 470 events in 2012.

"Getting the wedding award was great," said Ratcliff, whose business earned a 5.0 rating (perfect score) for 40 positive reviews on www.WeddingWire.com.

"About 85 percent of our business is weddings," he said. The rest is parties and corporate, school and charity events.

Packages start at $299 and average about $599, he said.

"It's fun for guests, and it replaces the standard guestbook and party favors," Ratcliff said. "All the guests go in the photo booth, put props on and walk out with a strip of photos. We pride ourselves that every single guest gets a photo strip every time they go in."

Some Foto Box wedding packages include a bride and groom's scrapbook that contains all the guests' photos, along with signed notes from the guests. It's a photo album that takes the place of a guest registry.

"Pull it out in 10 years, you're looking at more than a bunch of signatures," he said.
