Things to do in the Brandon area this weekend

Aladdin shenanigans: Center Place Fine Arts, 619 Vonderburg Drive in Brandon, presents “Aladdin & The Magic Lamp” at 7 p.m. for children age 3 through the third grade.

Set in ancient Persia, this adaptation of The Arabian Nights’ most famous tale features music, a magic lamp and a wicked magician.

Bluegrass bash: The Farm in Lithia will host a bluegrass concert featuring A2J, New Beginnings, Sawgrass and The Weaver Believers at 7 p.m. at 7818 Lithia Pinecrest Road. Arrive at 6:30 p.m. and enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs and a beverage. Entry is free, and a donation box is available.

There are 350 seats, so arrive early or bring lawn chairs. For information call (813) 967-3046 or go to www.TheFarmUSA.com.

Yard sale helps Haiti: South Brandon Worship Center hosts a community yard sale for Haiti from 9 a.m. to noon on the church grounds at 4929 Bell Shoals Road in Valrico. Proceeds support the Ambassadors of Jesus Children’s Orphanage in Port Au Prince, Haiti, as well as various relief ministries for the hurricane and earthquake victims.

Beatles throwback: Experience the Beatles when Rain returns to the Straz Center, 1010 N. MacInnes Place, at 8 p.m.

From the Ed Sullivan Show to Abbey Road, Rain looks and sounds just like the Beatles.

Tickets start $34.50 (plus service charges), and may be purchased online at strazcenter.org or call (813) 229-7827.

Wild wheels: The public is invited to the second annual Showmen’s Shrine Club Car Show Fund Raiser at the Showmen’s Event Center, 6915 Riverview Drive in Riverview.

Show registration is at 11 a.m. with an awards presentation at 3 p.m. A fish fry will be available for $10 and a pee-wee burger basket for $5. Car registration is $10 and drivers eat free.
