Things to do in the Brandon area this week

SATURDAY

Sampling safari: Zoofari, an all-inclusive fundraising feast, is happening from 7 to 11 p.m. at Lowry Park Zoo, 1101 W. Sligh Ave. The outdoor food festival features food samples from top Tampa Bay area restaurants and drinks from open bars, all for one price. Guests can dine, drink and dance to the Robert Randolph & The Family Band along with many other acts.

General admission tickets start at $75 and are available at www.LowryParkZoo.com/Zoofari or at the Zoo’s ticket windows. The VIP Rhino Club offers early entry and exclusive use of the Safari Lodge. Individual Rhino tickets are $135 online, or group packages are available by calling (813) 935-8552 ext. 275. Proceeds support animal care and education programs.

Seafood splendor: The Ruskin Seafood Festival returns to E.G. Simmons Park, 2401 19th Ave. N.W. in Ruskin, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The event features more than two dozen food vendors, serving both seafood and traditional fare, along with 100 commercial, nonprofit and arts-and-crafts vendors, along with a boating and outdoor expo. There also are children’s activities, and a concert is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. today.

SUNDAY

Fabulous fiesta: Conga Caliente returns to Al Lopez Park, 4810 N. Himes Ave., from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The free Hispanic arts and culture festival features national and international performers, a youth stage area, ethnic foods, a health village, a corporate village, an art village, a beer garden, cigars and a domino tournament. Admission is free.

Hot dogs and Handel: Gather your family and friends for a free afternoon of music at Picnic in the Park with Opera Tampa, at 4 p.m. at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, 600 N. Ashley Drive.

The outdoor concert features a selection of opera and Broadway pieces performed by the Opera Tampa Singers. Food trucks will be on site along with an artwork display featuring works for sale.

WEDNESDAY

Drake takes Tampa: Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum-selling recording artist Drake brings his “Would You Like a Tour?” arena tour to the Forum, 401 Channelside Drive, at 7 p.m. Supporting acts are Grammy Award-winning rising R&B artist Miguel, along with rapper Future.

Tickets range from $37 to $97 plus service charges, and are available at the Forum box office, through Ticketmaster or online at www.tampabaytimesforum.com.
