Tampa HIT Center, 9828 Currie Drive in Tampa, is offering $5 to its clients for every pound they lose as part of the Great Weight Rebate going on now through Dec. 31.
"The idea is to give clients an extra incentive," said Mark Gochenour, exercise physiologist and owner of the athletic training facility. "We wanted it to be tangible, something clients would talk about, and especially something that would be fun."
Participants who enroll will be part of the HIT Center's "Lighten-Up" program, which, according to Gochenour, is a scientific approach to weight loss.
The hallmark of this approach is the cardiopulmonary and metabolic evaluations that result in an individualized, systematic and progressive exercise prescription.
These evaluations have previously only been available to hospital patients, world-class athletes and research participants.
Each one-hour session, led by a trainer, is divided equally between cardio and resistance training, with no one workout ever repeated.
"This keeps the body progressing and prevents the client from getting bored," Gochenour said. "With the combination of science, motivation, diversity and fun the client will lose weight."
Suggested number of sessions per week is between two and three, which allows for a consistent exercise routine.
Each participant in the new program will weigh in every seven days and be rewarded in cash at that time.
The program begins with 18 sessions, which costs $990, plus one session of testing prior to beginning the program, which costs $200.
The HIT Center, 9828 Currie Davis Drive in Tampa, will promote the program during an open house April 7.
