Needy moms get early Mother’s Day makeover

BRANDON

A group of women got their Mother’s Day presents a few days early.

The Ethnic Hair Care Salon in Brandon, working with the Hope For Community Center in Tampa, provided free cut, color and styling services for about 20 women from Alpha House of Tampa. Each woman also received a gift bag full of beauty products.

Alpha House of Tampa provides housing for homeless pregnant women and mothers of young children while helping them become self-sufficient and responsible parents.

Tina Minnifield, stylist at Ethnic Hair Care, said a stylish cut or a beauty makeover has an effect that is more than skin deep.

“It encourages them and helps build their self-esteem,” Minnifield said. “We’re starting at the top with the hair, and it goes all the way down to their heart.”
