BRANDON – One of the best-selling books of all time, the Bible, may not be the best-read book, according to research polls.
“Many people are intimidated by its scope and size,” said the Rev. Dan Reid, pastor of The Journey in Brandon.
In hope of encouraging his congregation to read the Bible more, Reid will use a book called “The Story, NIV: The Bible as One Continuing Story of God and His People.” This is a 31-chapter, condensed New International Version Bible that has been arranged in chronological order with explanatory text between sections.
He believes it will help his parishioners better “understand God’s story from Genesis to Revelation and how their own stories intersect with God’s,” Reid said.
“I want the people in my congregation, as well as the greater Brandon area, to realize the incredible love God has for them and how their story is found in His story,” he said.
Beginning Sunday, Sept. 15, Reid will present The Story Church Campaign, a 31-week curriculum of Sunday school lessons for children, teens and adults, with corresponding sermons.
Five books – “The Story, NIV,” “The Story: Teen Edition,” “The Story for Kids,” “The Story for Children” and “The Story for Little Ones” – will keep everyone on the same page for 31 weeks.
The community is invited to participate at The Journey, 1310 John Moore Road. Sunday services begin at 9 a.m.
