SEFFNER -

School Administrator Roger Duncan has enlisted the help of a gridiron legend to help raise Seffner Christian Academy’s profile.

On April 11, the school will host a program headlined by former Florida State University football coach Bobby Bowden, who will speak during a fundraising dinner.

Bowden is scheduled to arrive on campus at 2 p.m. to speak to an assembly of secondary students. That will be followed by a V.I.P reception at 5:30 p.m. featuring autograph and photo opportunities before the program kicks off at 7 p.m. Tickets to the program are $75 and V.I.P tickets are $250.

“Our main focus is getting people on our campus and have them learn about our school,” Duncan said. “There are people in this community who have never heard of us and don’t even know there’s a school here.”

Duncan is eager to spread the word about his school after a blessed year. Enrollment is close to 700 students in grades K-12, including an increase of about 50 this year. He is also proud of the eclectic programs offered at the school.

“We have a great fine arts program, and our athletic teams have been successful,” Duncan said. Seffner Christian joined the Florida High School Athletic Association in 2005 and boasts 32 district final appearances, as well as six regional final berths. “Whatever your kid’s niche is, there’s an opportunity for he or she to thrive at our school.”

Bowden was chosen in large part for his devotion to Christian education and his passion for developing strong Christian leaders, such as current University of Georgia head coach — and former Bowden assistant — Mark Richt.

“You hear about him starting his days off with a staff devotion to the Bible when he was coaching,” Duncan said. “I’ve always been a big Seminole football fan, but I’m also a Gator basketball fan; so I get it from all sides.”

Duncan is confident Seffner Christian will make a good first impression on those visiting the campus for the first time.

“By the end of that night, we want people to leave with a desire to find out more about our school,” Duncan said.
