Ahoy, Mateys! It's the Perdido Key Pirate Festival

Ahoy, mateys! A rogue bunch of buccaneers are set to descend on Big Lagoon State Park on Oct. 25-26 for the Perdido Key Pirate Festival.

Families can experience pirate games, live music, a reptile show, storytelling, A magic show, food and crafts vendors and a real-life treasure hunt with prizes.

Each day of the festival, a large key will be hidden on the island, creating the ultimate treasure hunt for families.

The lucky pirate who finds the "lost key" will unlock a treasure chest loaded with a fantastic vacation getaway including a one-week stay at a Sandy Key Condominiums, dolphin cruise tickets and gift certificates to attractions and restaurants for a never-to-be forgotten week of family fun in Perdido Key.

In addition to the ‘lost key,’ close to 1,000 coins will be hidden throughout the park. Many of them will be specially marked and redeemable for great prizes and fun for the entire family.

Admission to Big Lagoon State Park is $6 per vehicle. Once inside the park, families can enjoy the pirate festivities for free. For the latest news on the Perdido Key Pirate Festival, go to www.visitperdido.com/pirate-fest.

Fun Fact: The word "Perdido" translates to "lost" in Spanish.  Perdido Bay was named due to the difficulty that early explorers had in finding the entrance. The bay is a great place for pirates to hide from the British and French ships that once patrolled the area years ago.
