USF women could add 2 more European players

Evidently, USF women's coach Jose Fernandez's global outreach apparently still is going strong.

His domestic recruiting chops aren't shabby either.

Fernandez, who received a letter of intent from 5-foot-11 Greek standout Irida Tsafara in November, recently got a non-binding verbal commitment from 6-foot Virginia standout Makaela Kestner. He also got a visit from Slovakia senior national-teamer Nikola Kovacikova.

USF's current roster features eight European-born players.

A member of Greece's under-19 national team, Tsafara's father played professionally in Greece. She led her under-18 team, Ikaros Kallitheas, to the final four, where it finished second in the National A2 Division.

Kestner, a former North Carolina commitment, is a three-star prospect according to ESPN, and doubles as a left-handed pitcher in softball. She is expected to sign in the NCAA's late signing period in April.

Kovacikova, a 5-9 combo guard, averaged 7.7 points and 2.1 assists in seven games in the B-Division of the FIBA under-20 Women's European Championship. In two previous age-group European championships, she averaged double figures for her squad.

USF also is heavily recruiting Seffner Christian 3-point specialist Brylee Bartram, a Crusaders junior who sank 115 treys last season.
