PLANT CITY - Move over, "American Idol."

The Plant City Community Church of the Nazarene is planning to crown a winner of its own at an Aug. 16 talent competition.

Competitors with any talent, from skits to singing, are welcome at the Great Big Talent Palooza, church pastor Don Corzine said.

The audience will determine the winners at the competition, which is the final installment of the church's Family Fun Night series. The fun nights are an alternative to vacation Bible school.

"We're trying something different this summer," said Corzine, who said previous fun night themes have included a water palooza and a carnival.

The fun night will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 16 at the church at 2402 Mud Lake Road and includes food, audience prizes and a praise and worship service.

There's no charge, although donations are accepted.

The evening opens with a meal, followed by the talent show. The audience will select the top three performances. The winning act receives a gift certificate.

Acts are encouraged to preregister. For information, or to preregister, contact the church at (813) 752-7863 or plantcitynaz@tampabay.rr.com.
