Dave Matthews bringing 'Special Evening' concept to Tampa

Published:   |   Updated: January 14, 2014 at 06:50 PM

One of the most heralded acts in live music is hitting the road this summer with a new touring concept.

“A Very Special Evening with Dave Matthews Band,” a 42-date U.S. tour featuring two distinct sets during each performance, will stop at Tampa's MidFlorida Amphitheater on July 16, a news release from Dave Matthews Band announced.

The tour will feature the band performing in different configurations, including “intimate moments” where only a small group of band members will be on stage. Vocalist/guitarist Dave Matthews and guitarist Tim Reynolds will perform some songs as an acoustic duo, as they occasionally do when the band is off the road, the release said.

A variety of guests will join the band on the tour throughout the summer.

Presale tickets go on sale to DMB Warehouse Fan Association members on Jan. 16. Details are available at warehouse.davematthewsband.com.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Feb. 7. No prices have been announced yet.

“I was talking to Carter about how much I still like just sitting around playing music together. It's how we started — in the basements of Carter's and my mom's houses,” Dave Matthews said in the announcement. “Our shows are loose, but we started thinking that maybe this summer we should make them looser and bring some of that feeling to the stage. It seems like the opposite of a safe plan, so why not?”

In 2013, Rolling Stone magazine named Dave Matthews Band to its list of the “50 Greatest Live Acts Right Now.” The band has sold more tickets than any other musical act, worldwide, over the past decade.

The band plans to release a yet-to-be-titled new album produced by Rob Cavallo in 2014.
