Chris Isaak to perform ‘50s classics, Christmas songs in St. Petersburg

Chris Isaak is coming to St. Petersburg this winter with a mix of 1950s covers and well-worn holiday classics.

The Mahaffey Theater announced that the “Wicked Game” and “Baby Did a Bad, Bad Thing” singer will perform there on Dec. 22 as part of the Chris Isaak Live Holiday Tour.

Tickets, ranging from $39.50 to $69.50, go on sale Sept. 13 at noon through TheMahaffey.com.

The tour will feature Isaak performing songs recorded at the legendary Sun Studios in Memphis, Tenn., by Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, B.B. King and others. He’ll also play a variety of holiday favorites, The Mahaffey said.

In 2012, Isaak released his latest album, “Beyond the Sun,” which featured Isaak’s versions of those Sun Studios recordings, plus some originals written by Isaak.

Isaak, whose 25-year career has been heavily influenced by the style of those artists from the ‘50s, said it was only a matter of time before he recorded those songs.

“When I started making music, I thought if I do those songs, where do I go from there,” Isaak said in a statement. “I wanted to make sure I found my own sound and established who I was. But I always loved that music and wrote songs in that spirit.”
