Each week, the Tribune prep sports staff selects a Male and Female Athlete of the Week. The selections are based on athletic performance. For video, visit to meet our athletes of the week.

Jack Guyton, Plant

WHY WE CHOSE HIM: Guyton won the Class 4A-District 6 cross country title last week with a personal-best 15:54.6, 20 seconds. Guyton's effort helped the Panthers take the boys team title with 32 points, 31 ahead of Sickles.

Courtney Vogler, Academy of the Holy Names

WHY WE CHOSE HER: Vogler, a 6-foot-2 outside hitter, led the Jaguars to their first victory against Berkeley Prep in more than 30 years last week, finishing with 25 kills and four blocks in a five-set upset in the Class 4A-District 10 championship. Holy Names volleyball hadn't won a district title since 2003.

COLLEGE PLANS: Vogler has verbally committed to play volleyball for the University of North Carolina.
