Each week, the Tribune preps sports staff will select a Male and Female Athlete of the Week. The selections will be based on athletic performance.

Robbie Shell, Seffner Christian

WHY WE CHOSE HIM: Shell, a senior running back, set a school record during the Crusaders' 54-21 win against Oviedo Master's Academy on Friday with six touchdowns — five of which were scored in the first half — on plays 20, 45, 51, 55, 65 and 67 yards. Shell finished with 305 total yards (200 rushing), with half his touchdowns coming via pass.

COLLEGE PLANS: Would like to play football or track and field at the University of South Florida.

Lexi Thompson, Durant

WHY WE CHOSE HER: Thompson, a senior outside hitter on Durant's undefeated volleyball team, led the way as the Cougars captured the Academy of the Holy Names Invitational over the weekend. In the championship game against Holy Names, Thompson finished with 11 kills and 10 digs. For the tournament, she had 57 kills.

COLLEGE PLANS: Thompson is verbally committed to the University of Mississippi.
