Plant City events: Dorsey at library, barbecue youth benefit

Novelist to sign autographs July 13 at library

Tampa-based author Tim Dorsey will be featured at Bruton Memorial Library at 1:30 pm. July 13.

Dorsey will talk about his works and sign autographs at the library, 302 W. McLendon St.

Dorsey is a former Tampa Tribune editor who writes Florida-themed novels.

All library programs are free.

Barbecue to benefit youth football, cheerleading

The Plant City Eagles will hold a chicken and rib dinner fundraiser from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at Bealsville Recreation Center, 5009 Nesmith Road.

The cost is $8 for chicken dark meat, $9 for chicken white meat and $10 for ribs. The meals also include baked beans, potato salad and dinner roll.

Desserts such as red velvet/strawberry cake and cinnamon rolls will be sold separately.

The meal will raise money for new football helmets and cheerleading uniforms, and to keep registration fees affordable for at-risk youth.

Delivery is available for five or more meals by calling (813) 716-2324 between 10 a.m. and noon Friday.

Alternative pickup locations include the Plant City Photo Archives and History Center, 106 S. Evers St. and Bing Rooming House Museum, 205 S. Allen St.

Dart Container, Pepsi Tampa Bottling Co. and GFS made donations to help the fundraising effort.

Evangelist's daughter featured at church revival

Joanna Coe-Herndon, a minister and daughter of well-known evangelist Jack Coe Sr., will lead revival services July 4 to 7.

The services will be at 7:30 p.m. July 4, 5 and 6 and at 7 p.m. July 7 at Full Gospel Tabernacle of Plant City, 2311 Sammonds Road.

Her father traveled around the United States with tent revivals until his death in 1956.

Plant City High grads to meet

Members of Plant City High School's Class of 1961 will hold their monthly luncheon 1 p.m. Thursday at Applebee's, 1204 Townsgate Court.

The classmates have a Dutch-treat lunch the last Thursday monthly.

Church honors graduates

Hope Lutheran Church recently honored members of the congregation who graduated from high school or college this academic year.

The honorees included Skylar Smith, who graduated sixth in her class from Plant City High School and has received a President's Scholarship to Concordia University, Austin, Texas; and Jason Pfeffer, who graduated in December, Cum Laude, with a bachelor of science in elementary education from the University of South Florida.
