Runners looking for a bit of extra motivation might want to check out the upcoming Tampa Bay 5K Zombie Run.
The race, in which "survivors," will try to evade a flesh-hungry pack of "zombies" throughout a five-kilometer course, is returning for its second year on Nov. 9 with a new location at Lake Park in Lutz.
The race debuted last December at Little Everglades Ranch in Dade City.
The course will feature wooded trails filled with costumed zombies trying to strip flags from the runner's belts. Those who cross the finish line with at least one flag intact will have the right to brag that they survived the zombie apocalypse.
Those who prefer to do the hunting can sign up to be part of the zombie horde. There will be free makeup services to get the zombie look right.
All registrants receive a shirt, a medal, free beers and entry to the post-race apocalypse party with music and food. There will be prizes for the top runners, as well as a costume contest.
Registration is $90 for runners and $70 for zombies.
Participants must be at least 12 years old, and minors will need a parental waiver.
