Bucs scrub minicamp finale to see 'World War Z'

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers spent the last day of their three-day mandatory minicamp in the film room Thursday. They weren't watching the usual assortment of football practice cut-ups, though.

Rewarded for the hard work they put in during an offseason workout program that began in mid-April, the Bucs spent the morning watching a special early screening of the movie “World War Z'' starring Brad Pitt.

“Shout out to H.C. (head coach Greg Schiano) for tossing us a bone. #MorningMovie #WorldWarZ,'' Bucs tight end Zack Miller tweeted shortly after the players were informed of the schedule change.

An apocalyptic action flick, “World War Z” is scheduled to open in theaters June 21. The early screening at the AMC West Shore 14 theaters played to good reviews from several Bucs players.

“World War Z was dope! #YEAH,'' linebacker Mason Foster tweeted.

“World War Z......... A must see!! Very entertaining. Brad Pitt did it again,” tweeted defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

Schiano, who finished up his second offseason as the Bucs coach after replacing Raheem Morris in January 2012, hinted at the beginning of the minicamp he might lighten the schedule at the end.

“The staff, and I think the guys, have done a great job in the (offseason workouts),'' Schiano said Tuesday. “We've got just about everything installed, so now we're just going to rep it and watch it on tape. By the time Thursday comes along, these guys are going to be ready for a little break, and as I've said, this is all about one thing — to get us ready for training camp — and the guys have approached it in a great way.''

The players are off until training camp begins in late July.
