Lottery players get another game Wednesday when tickets go on sale for the multistate Mega Millions game.
The $1 tickets go on sale at Florida Lottery outlets at 6 a.m. Wednesday for the twice a week game, according to Florida Lottery officials.
The jackpot starts at $12 million for each drawing and increases with each rollover. The game includes players from 42 states plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Players need to match five numbers, from 1 to 56, in any order and the Mega Ball number, from 1 to 46, to win the top jackpot. Getting the five balls right wins $250,000, but if the ticket includes the Megaplier the prize is $1 million. The Megaplier costs another $1 and can yield from two to four times more on the nonjackpot prizes. Quick picks are available for the numbers and Mega Ball.
Drawings are at 11 p.m. Tuesday and Friday nights at WSB-TV in Atlanta. Tickets are sold until 10 p.m. the night of the drawing.
To play the game in Florida, customers must use a play slip from a Florida Lottery dealer, the agency said. Florida players have 180 days to claim their prize.
The largest Mega Millions jackpot was $656 million on March 30, 2012. There were three winning tickets: one in each Illinois, Kansas and Maryland. The game started May 15, 2002.
The odds of winning the top prize are about 1 in 175 million, but the odds for the smaller prize are 1 in 40.
