Things to do in Northwest Tampa, Carrollwood area

Commissioner Beckner: Kevin Beckner, Hillsborough County commissioner for District 6 (countywide), will host office hours from 10 a.m. to noon at the Town ‘N Country Senior Center, 7606 Paula Drive, Tampa. This will give residents a chance to speak with their commissioner and discuss ideas and concerns. No appointment is necessary; residents are seen on a first-come, first-served basis.

Active kids: Children ages 3 through 6 can “Jump, Jive and Jam” at 10:15 a.m. at the Lutz Branch Library, 101 Lutz-Lake Fern Road W. Both mind and body are stimulated during this fun and funky high energy movement class with fitness, fun and music.

Women’s Day Tea: Make reservations to attend the Women’s Day Tea Sunday from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at Maestros Restaurant in the Straz Center. Edie Lutnick will speak about courage and opening up windows of opportunity. The event is open to all women ages 13 and older. Wee artists: Arts and crafts for preschoolers and their caregivers will be made at the Upper Tampa Bay Regional Public Library, 11211 Countryway Blvd. beginning at 1:15 p.m. The selected projects will sized just right for their little hands. Register at the reference desk.

Magnetic teens: Teens can get creative at the Keel Regional Library, 2902 W. Bearss Ave., and make custom magnets. The fun begins at 6 p.m. and refreshments will be served. Bring favorite photos or other images to use in the creative process.

Show and lunch: Friday Morning Musicale will meet at 10 a.m. at 809 Horatio St. The program, "A Musicale Review," will begin at 11 a.m. with songs and dances, skits and revues, Mexican hat dance, Copacabana and a Carmen Miranda impersonator. The finale will be a Spanish fan dance by Energetic Seniors and one young chickadee. A luncheon will follow the program at a cost of $7. For reservations, call (813) 258-4752.

Scrapbooking time: Bring your own supplies for a day of scrapbooking fun from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Lutz Branch Library, 101 Lutz-Lake Fern Road. Share ideas, techniques and creativity with other scrapers.

Acoustic guitars: Youth in grades 6 through 12 can get together with their acoustic guitars at 2 p.m. in the Town ‘N Country Regional Public Library, 7606 Paula Drive, Ste. 120 for a musical afternoon. Join in and play or just sit back and enjoy the sounds.

Block party: Children in grades 1 through 5 can use the theme of magic to build with Legos beginning at 4 p.m. at the Austin Davis Public Library, 17808 Wayne Road, Odessa. The blocks will be provided.

Retro 80’s: Teens can travel back to the 80’s for a RAD time. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Austin Davis Public Library, 17808 Wayne Road, Odessa. Enjoy an 80’s time warp with music, movies and games. Remember to crimp your hair, peg you jeans and push up those sleeves.

Wild flowers: Master Gardeners will speak about the many varieties of wild flowers in central Florida at 6:30 p.m. at the Austin Davis Public Library, 17808 Wayne Road, Odessa. Come out and learn about these little beauties.

Garden club: The Orange Blossom Garden Club of Lutz will picnic at Lettuce Lake Park on March 6. Members and guest will meet at the Lutz Community Center at 10 a.m. and car pool to the park. Bring a sandwich and beverage; dessert will be provided. Members are reminded to bring their Easter donations for the nursing home.

Meet Doris Weatherford: Make reservations by noon March 8 for The League of Women Voters of Hillsborough County luncheon and presentation from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 12. Doris Weatherford, author of “Women in American Politics: History and Milestones,” will be the guest speaker for the event. Cost is $18 for members and $23 for guests.
