MOMBASA, Kenya (AP) — An official in Kenya says that police shot and killed two men labeled by police as terror suspects.
The provincial police chief on Kenya's coast, Aggrey Adoli, said Monday that one of the suspects, Kassim Otieno Amollo, was a bomb expert with the Somali militant group al-Shabab.
Adoli said that police had information that Amollo and his accomplice crossed into Kenya from Somalia and planned to carry out terror attacks.
Adoli said that police recovered two hand grenades, a pistol, an AK-47 rifle and chemicals for manufacturing explosives in Amollo's house.
Police identified the other man who was killed as Salim Mohammed Nero.
Adoli said police were tipped off to the presence of the two men by a former al-Shabab member who has had a falling out with the militants.
