BOSTON (AP) — The speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives says he is relieved that The Boston Globe will remain in local hands after the principle owner of the Boston Red Sox entered into an agreement to buy New England's largest daily newspaper.
House Speaker Robert DeLeo said Saturday that he wishes businessman John Henry good luck upon his purchase of The Globe.
DeLeo says he is "relieved we will still be able to say 'The Globe's here.'"
The Globe says t the deal will give Henry the 141-year-old newspaper, its websites and affiliated companies.
The New York Times Co. announced in February it was putting the Globe and related assets up for sale four years after calling off a previous attempt to sell it. The company said then that it wants to focus attention on The New York Times brand.
