ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) — Brooks Laich is injured again, leaving the ice just 10 minutes or so into the opening practice of Washington Capitals training camp.
The veteran forward said Thursday he had a "flare-up" of a strained hip flexor he suffered last week, his first day in Washington after a summer of successful rehab of a pulled groin.
Laich was anxious for the start of camp after playing only nine games last year.
Laich's status is day-to-day. Neither general manager George McPhee nor coach Adam Oates sounded particularly concerned.
