LAPEER, Mich. (AP) — Officials say they're working to curb problems at a Lapeer County site used as a shooting range in a state-managed game area.
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources, state police and the Lapeer County sheriff's department recently announced plans to curb illegal shooting activity at the Roods Lake Road site, located roughly 50 miles northwest of Detroit.
Since mid-April, officials say complaints have been increasing about loud explosions at the Lapeer State Game Area site. After a preliminary investigation, officials say they determined that illegal firearms and exploding targets are being used at the site.
Authorities plan stepped up patrols and enforcement in the area. The DNR allows target shooting at the site, but only at paper, cardboard or clay targets.
