The big welcome party planned for Sunday at Tropicana Field will go on, despite the looming threat of Tropical Storm Isaac, the 2012 Tampa Bay Host Committee for the Republican National Convention said tonight.

"The Tampa Bay Host Committee Welcome Event will continue as planned," Host Committee CEO and President Ken Jones said in a statement. "The focus of this event has always been about promoting Tampa Bay by welcoming the delegates, media and guests to our area for the Republican National Convention.

"Based on current weather information, the Tampa Bay area will be in a position to safely host an event of this magnitude while showcasing the widespread community support we have received during the planning process. "

The party will take place from 6 to 9:30 p.m., with doors opening at 5.

If you're thinking about crashing the party, forget it. Invited guests must wear an official Host Committee-issued Welcome Event credential to access the event.
