COMMERCE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — A Republican attorney will run against first-term GOP U.S. Rep. Kerry Bentivolio in his suburban Detroit district.
Dave Trott of Birmingham, who heads one of the largest foreclosure law firms in the country, announced his candidacy for the 11th Congressional District on Wednesday. Trott, 52, also is a Republican fundraiser.
Bentivolio won the seat last year after Republican U.S. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter shockingly failed to qualify for the ballot.
Republican leaders closed ranks behind Bentivolio in the GOP-leaning district but not before backing a former Republican state senator's unsuccessful write-in campaign.
Trott announced support from former state Senate Majority Mike Bishop, Wayne County Commissioner Laura Cox and others.
Bentivolio, of Milford, recently said it would be a "dream come true" to seek the impeachment of President Barack Obama.
