HONOLULU (AP) — Honolulu City Councilman Stanley Chang says he raised $158,000 during the second quarter toward his bid for an open U.S. House seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Colleen Hanabusa.
The Honolulu Star-Advertiser reported Wednesday (http://goo.gl/4JOjF ) that Chang released the figures early, before reports are due to the Federal Election Commission on July 15.
Chang has raised $183,700 so far. The Democrat declared his candidacy in April. Hanabusa is challenging U.S. Sen. Brian Schatz in a Democratic primary.
While no other candidates have formally declared themselves in the race, state Sen. Will Espero says he's leaning toward entering. Also considering bids are Honolulu City Councilman Ikaika Anderson and state Rep. K. Mark Takai.
Chang is in his first term on the city council.
