Tampa has produced some pretty unique Kickstarter campaigns.
Local ideas for an all-bacon restaurant, a firefighter cooking show and even a request for college beer money have all shown up on the crowd-funding site, but a new project titled PetPhone could be the most out-there idea yet.
The PetPhone project has a goal of raising $196,000 by Aug. 18 to produce a personal music player for dogs or cats.
The MP3 player — essentially an iPod for pets — would come as a headpiece with built-in earphones and a 4GB internal memory that “provides ample space for you pet’s favorite music.”
The idea is that the PetPhone would use soothing music to help with anxiety caused by thunderstorms, fireworks, vacuuming, traveling in crowded places or other situations that cause your pet stress.
Unlike regular headphones, the PetPhone will eliminate high frequencies and limit the volume to protect sensitive animal ears, according to the Kickstarter page. It’s also designed so that it could be removed easily by a pet’s front leg, if it feels uncomfortable.
According to the Kickstarter page, backers who pledge $98 or more will be the first to receive a PetPhone in either black or white.
