Stork alert! Busch Gardens gorilla is expecting

Published:

The stork may need an extra hand for an upcoming delivery to Busch Gardens next month.

One of the theme park’s western lowland gorillas, 11-year-old Pele, is expected to give birth sometime in December, the park announced.

According to SeaWorld.org, gorillas gestate for 8 1/2 months and newborn gorillas usually weigh about 4 1/2 pounds

Pele came to Busch Gardens in February 2010 from the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, Texas.

The likely father is Bolingo, who was born in November 2005 at Busch Gardens and was the park’s first successful gorilla birth.

The expectant parents, along with the park’s other gorillas, can be seen in Myombe Reserve until Pele is close to delivering..
