A tour guide taking a family through the Everglades gave them more of a show than any of them was expecting when he ended up wrestling and killing a 10-foot python.
Tommy Owen was conducting a tour for Everglades Adventure Tours recently when he picked up the python after seeing it in the water.
“I didn’t even realize it was 10 feet, I thought it was definitely over 6 feet, definitely bigger than me.”
He said he didn’t intend to wrestle with it, but instinct took over.
“It don’t belong here, and that’s was literally running through my mind. I launched on it, essentially ambushed it, just like any other predator out here.”
He wrestled with the snake for a few moments until his partner was able to kill it.
The encounter was caught on video.
Owen said he’d do it again.
The python, a non-native species, has been targeted by the state. A month-long python roundup netted 50 of the reptiles.
