Sisters question police actions in deadly DC chase

Published:

NEW YORK – The sisters of a Connecticut woman shot to death by police in Washington, D.C., after trying to ram her car through a White House barrier say they want to know why she had to die.

Miriam Carey’s sister Amy Carey-Jones said on CNN today there should’ve been “another way instead of shooting and killing an individual.” Her sister Valerie Carey says she “did not deserve to have her life cut down” at age 34.

The sisters say Miriam Carey had been suffering from postpartum depression with psychosis since the birth of her 1-year-old daughter.

Miriam Carey’s killing at the hands of police Thursday was Washington’s second major spasm of deadly violence involving an apparently unstable person in 2 1/2 weeks.

Police say they’re confident Carey’s actions weren’t an accident.
