PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A special task force examining ways to change Rhode Island's sales tax is studying its implications for local businesses.
The sales tax commission is scheduled to meet Tuesday at the Statehouse.
The commission was formed after a lawmaker called for the repeal of the 7 percent tax. While that idea is unlikely to pass, lawmakers say it's time for a broader look at ways to make the tax less of a burden on consumers and businesses.
Tuesday's agenda includes a discussion of how much sales taxes cost businesses buying goods from other businesses.
The commission includes lawmakers and business owners.
