YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP) — General Motors Co. says it's providing a 3-year, $900,000 gift to a group dedicated to boosting engineering, math and science education.
The grant announced Friday goes to Project Lead The Way.
GM and Eastern Michigan University describe Project Lead The Way as a top nonprofit provider of science, technology, engineering and math curriculum materials for U.S. middle and high schools.
They say that it's unlike traditional math and science courses because its engineering and biomedical sciences curriculum materials apply "math and science principles in a real-world context."
One-hundred-twenty-two Michigan schools now offer the project's programs in Michigan. GM says its annual $300,000 grant could expand that by 24 schools.
Eastern Michigan will help support the schools and train teachers.
