A medical examiner in Arizona has concluded that former pro wrestler Warrior died of heart disease.

A preliminary autopsy, performed Thursday, cited “atherosclerotic/arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease” and natural causes, Maricopa County officials said.

The 54-year-old wrestler, whose given name was James Hellwig, collapsed April 8 while walking with his wife to their car at a Scottsdale, Ariz., hotel and was pronounced dead at a hospital.

An investigation into his death will continue and a full autopsy report will be released in several months, authorities said.

Scottsdale police have said there were no signs of foul play.

As the Ultimate Warrior, he was one of World Wrestling Entertainment’s biggest stars in the late 1980s.

He changed his name to Warrior in 1993.

He is survived by his wife, Dana, and two daughters.

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.
