Ulele restaurant is slowly taking shape inside the historic former Tampa Water Works building along the Hillsborough River in Tampa Heights.

The building's pre-existing concrete footer had to be removed to install new plumbing and other utility lines in the building, which is more than a century old.

Construction is expected to be finished by February on the restaurant being built by Richard Gonzmart and the Columbia Restaurant Group. When finished, Ulele is expected to serve food inspired by native ingredients as well as beer from an in-house micro-brewery.
