Shoppers turn out for Lutz arts and crafts show

LUTZ – Sunny weather and more than 250 vendors drove thousands of visitors to the 34th Annual Lutz Arts & Crafts Festival.

The Dec. 7-8 event at Lake Park was sponsored by the Lutz-Land O’Lakes Woman’s Club and featured art work, photography, jewelry, woodwork, ceramics, stained glass, garden art, specialty foods and holiday decorations. Guests also had choices of deviled crabs, smoked mullet, hot dogs, kettle corn, funnel cakes and other items.

Shirley Simmons, event co-chair, said they didn’t know how many attended but traditionally up to 30,000 visitors stop by.

“I know many of the vendors told us they did better on Saturday than they did all weekend last year,” Simmons said. “Many already are putting in the applications for their space next year,” when the festival is held Dec. 6-7.

Meanwhile, the woman’s club is busy with the 17th annual Christmas at the Old Lutz School, 18819 U.S. Highway 41. The house will be open for viewing 6:30 to 9 p.m. Thursday; Sunday; Dec. 26; and Dec. 27. It will be open 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday. Visitors are asked to bring nonperishable food items and toys for donation to those in need.
