9/11 events in the Tampa Bay area

Ceremonies honoring those who died during the terrorist attacks of 9/11 will take place across the Tampa Bay area starting Wednesday. The following is a list of some of those events.

Wednesday

◆ 2013 Patriots Day Remembrance Ceremony to honor those lost on 9/11, 11 a.m., Veterans Memorial Park, 3602 U.S. 301 N., Tampa; free. Call (813) 744-5502 and visit veteransparkhc.com.

◆ Tampa Fire Rescue September 11th Remembrance Ceremony, 9:30 a.m. at the Tampa Firefighters Museum, 720 East Zack Street, Tampa.

◆ Second annual Remember-Honor-Support Patriot Day Memorial Breakfast, 9 a.m., Historic Coliseum, 535 Fourth Ave. N., St. Petersburg. SOLD OUT. Visit www.rememberhonorsupport.org.

◆ VFW Post 10209, 14736 Edward R. Noll Drive, Spring Hill, hosts a 9/11 memorial service at 9:30 a.m. Guests are asked to bring their own chairs. The event is sponsored by the Retired NYC Firefighters of Spring Hill Chapter 343 and VFW Post 10209.

◆ Members of the GFWC Lutz-Land O’ Lakes Woman’s Club will wave flags from 9 to 10 a.m. at SunTrust Bank, 21744 State Road 54 in Land O’ Lakes, and from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Old Lutz Schoolhouse, 18819 U.S. 41 N., Lutz. The community is invited to join the club members, bring the kids and wave a flag to show your patriotism.

◆ Fifty white doves will be released at 10 a.m. at the Polk County Sheriff’s Office’s operations center, 1891 Jim Keene Blvd. in Winter Haven. Frank Fanni, of A Touch Above, invited first responders from across the country to the event, which will honor those who perished during the terrorist attacks.

◆ Lakewood Ranch Remembers 9/11, 8:45 to 9:15 a.m., Manatee Technical Institute East Campus, 5520 Lakewood Ranch Blvd., Bradenton. Visit www.lwrcac.com.

◆ “Celebration of Our Patriotism” memorial ceremony to remember the victims of 9/11, 6:30 p.m., Sims Park, 5443 Main St., New Port Richey. (727) 841-4560 and visit www.citynpr.org.

FRIDAY

◆ POW/MIA Remembrance Day, 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, 3602 U.S. 301 N., free. Call (813) 744-5502 and visit veteransparkhc.com.

SATURDAY

◆ Sixth annual AMVETS Remembrance Ride and Patriot Day Observance, noon to 5 p.m., Veterans Memorial Park, 3602 U.S. 301 N., Tampa; memorial ceremony, live entertainment, vendors and interactive displays from the military and first responders. Visit www.amvetspost44brandon.com.
